I am not much of a pattern writer and have never actually posted on online, but I figured I'd give this one a go since it is super easy and a great pattern for a beginner.

Every little kid at some point and time has a meet up with something from the Wonderful World of Disney, and now that the pretty much have a monopoly on the entertainment world, you can't help but to be integrated with them somehow! Well, my little man never showed much interested in anything Disney related until recently. Around Halloween he showed a good interest in the animated Robin Hood and before that the only movie he loves was Cars. But yesterday, Eamon watched the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for the very first time and fell in love with it for some reason. It was on the Disney Channel for an hour long spot, and real tears streamed from his face when it was over. He was so sad. He has owned a Mickey Mouse shirt for about a year now and demanded to wear it the rest of the day (for some reason, despite never watching Mickey Mouse he adores this shirt pretty much all the time, too).


I began looking around to find some patterns to make a hat and found lots online. Eamon is not much of a hat wearer but I have a cousin (adult cousin mind you) who is absolutely obsessed with everything Disney and I though about making her a present since she couldn't  make it to see us this Christmas. I decided to come up with a cute idea for an ear warmer since it is more versatile and she is known for her outdoor running! (Oh, and if you see this blog before your gift arrives, SURPRISE TINA!)

THE PATTERN:

Like I said, this is the first time I am writing a pattern down on paper for online, so if you see any errors or need clarification, please let me know!

What you need:

• Worsted weight yarn in red, white, and black. For my ear warmer I used Red Heart Super Saver from Walmart in black, white and cherry red.
• 6 mm crochet hook
• 5.5 mm crochet hook
• A yarn needle such as THIS one.

Terms and stitches you need to know:

• DC = Double Crochet
• CH = Chain
• SS = Slip Stitch
• Magic Ring

Pattern: Headband

Using red yarn chain 68 using your 6 mm hook. Join and form a circle, making sure you do not twist your chain.

Chain 3 (counts as DC) and DC in each chain all the way around. Join to top of CH 3 to finish round.

Chain 3 and repeat this round 3x.

Join white yarn. Once joined cut off your red with enough length to weave in end. Chain 3 and DC in each stitch all the way. Repeat 3x.

At this point you should have four rows of red (not counting your initial chain) and four row of white, all 68 stitches around.

SS in each stitch all the way around. Weave in end of yarn with yarn needle and cut. Go back and weave the rest of your threads and trim.

Finished piece should measure 23" in circumference and 4.5" in width.

Pattern: Mouse Ears

Switch to you 5.5 mm hook. We will start with the center:

Created a magic ring. CH 3 and DC 10 into the center SS into top of chain 3.

CH 3. DC 2 into each stitch all the way around (20DC) and join.

CH3  * DC 2 in next stitch, then DC 1 in next. * Repeat from * to * until end of round. SS to join. Cut yarn and weave in ends. (30 DC)

Next, we will do the ears Complete these steps 2x.

Create another magic ring, CH 3 and DC 8 into the center. SS o top of chain 3.

CH3. DC 2x into each stitch. SS to join, cut, and leave a tail long enough to join into to the base circle.

After you have completed the base circle and two ears, use your tapestry needle to sew the ears to the base. After you are completed this step, use a long piece of yarn to sew the applique onto your earwarmer wherever you wish!


If you need to resize this pattern, simple make a foundation chain in the length/circumference of the person you are making the earwarmer for and DC that same number of stitched all the way around. And if you're not a crocheter, you can simply visit my ETSY SHOP and purchase one!
